Popular Education Provides Economic Empowerment for Women in Transition

BEHIND-THE-PROJECT

Our Behind the Project series will give you the scoop about our work. We want to show you what we do and how we do it. We’re proud of our work, inspired by the work our partners do, and we’re committed to transparency as an organization. You’ll get an inside look at what we do and the kinds of projects we can do with you.

TESA worked with the New England Learning Center for Women in Transition on a workshop for all of NELCWIT’s staff that would engage participants in the tenets of popular and participatory education, particularly as how it could be utilized by social change organizations both internally and externally.

Since 1976, NELCWIT has been working to build safety, justice, and dignity for all. Serving Franklin County and the North Quabbin region of western Massachusetts, we offer safety planning, advocacy, and support to anyone who has survived domestic or sexual abuse, and prevention education for our community, especially area youth.

TESA worked with the Youth Action Coalition to train a number of youth groups in hands-on cooperative skills.

Youth Action Coalition (YAC) promotes youth empowerment through creative expression and social action projects. YAC’s core program, Arts-for-Change (AfC), is a series of distinct arts and media projects that pairs intensive arts immersion with social justice education.

AfC provides youth from across the race/class/social spectrum access to free, high quality arts programming, helping youth break down barriers, and offering a safe space for shared dialogue and collaboration.

Teaching How to Resist War—Our Partnership with War Resisters League

The War Resisters League (WRL) has been resisting war at home and war abroad since 1923. Today, as one of the leading radical voices in the antiwar movement, they challenge military recruitment and war profiteering, organize nonviolent direct action, and offer on-the-ground tools to end the current war and all wars.

We worked with WRL to update, develop, and overhaul curriculum, infographics, and interactive activities for WRL’s Tax Day Flyer and nascent Anti-Tear Gas Campaign. Working with WRL facilitators, organizers, and researchers, TESA was able to provide an in-depth and interactive curriculum to be used in correlation with WRL’s yearly tax day activism, and as a gateway workshop to their expanding Anti-Tear Gas Campaign.

How We Helped Launch 8 Co-ops (and Built an International Education Platform) with the Cooperative Development Institute

BEHIND-THE-PROJECT

Remember VH1’s Behind the Music series? We didn’t realize, but it’s still on the air. The channel gives you an all-access pass to the celebrity artists of the day. You can hear how Ludacris used to be an intern, or about Carrie Underwood’s search for love.

We’ve been inspired to riff off that idea and so we’re launching a new series here about the whys, hows, and whats behind the work we do.

We won’t get personal—no love life stories, don’t worry—but our Behind the Project series will give you the scoop about TESA’s work. We want to show you what we do and how we do it. We’re proud of our work, inspired by the work our partners do, and we’re committed to transparency as an organization. You’ll get an inside look at what we do and the kinds of projects we can do with you.
